Good morning, my dear readers!

How did your Sunday go? Today, we are coming with Saturday‘s WordPress prompt. As I mentioned on yesterday, I started to write it, but housekeeping stuff kept me busy, and after that, I was meeting some friends, so finally, I left it to calmly write it on Sunday afternoon, and release it on today for all of you, so now we can start the week with energy 😎.

Then, we are here to interview both President and Secretary General of International Basketball Federation, FIBA. The current President is Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, and the current Secretary General is Andreas Zagklis, who also oversees the implementation of FIBA’s long-term strategy. 

Question: Good morning, how are you? First of all, thanks a lot for giving me the opportunity of this interview to both of you.

Answer: Let’s go straight to the core of this interview, please. We finally agreed to give it for free, so every second we spend in here with waste questions cost us a lot of money.

Q.: All right, all right. I was just wanted to be kind with both of you, but if you prefer to start with the hard questions, let’s go for it.

A.: Our time is precious. Come on, sir.

Q.: Currently, the Eurobasket is being played in its groups phase, as in last few times, in four different venues, but the most commented topic is the participation of Israel in the tournament, when Russia is absent since the first time of the country invaded Ukraine, already three years and a half ago. What is the reason you are giving us for it?

A.: The people of Israel are really happy of the first participation of its country in a competition of these characteristics, so we are also happy that Europe can see the basketball of different countries all around the continent.

Q.: I agree with it, but my question is not exactly that. Precisely, this year, with the conflict still on and Netanyahu announcing that he will not stop until all the Palestinian territory is destroyed and its people are gone or dead, do you think that we need to accept that, especially, when we are banning another country exactly for the same, or even worse, as Israel is involved in a total Genocide? People in Palestine, especially children, elderly and hospital occupants, are not able to defend theirselves at all.

A.: Israel has gained a meritorious participation within Eurobasket and we will not stop it.

Q.: Well, in Russia, there are still basketball players participating in their leagues, but FIBA does not allow them to participate in Europe competition because its conflict with Ukraine. Why the rules are not the same for Israel?

A.: We won’t admit Russia in European or World competitions, but Israel needs to be in here. We cannot stop it because we all agreed that Israel needed a place in this world nearly a hundred years ago and disallowing that again would make an even greater conflict.

Q.: I really think that the conflict is already here and we all are just giving more and more facilities to Israel for doing whatever they wish.

A.: Have you got any more questions or can we leave? We have a match starting in 2 hours in Poland and we need to leave now or we are not gonna arrive on time if we still keep wasting our time here with you.

Q.: Do you mean Poland V Israel, on the other hand, a match that should never take place?

A.: Goodbye, kid. I hope you keep this interview with you and you don’t use it to blame us of nothing.

Q.: The debate is already in the street since you allowed Israel to participate in Eurobasket 2025. I am just giving to my readers what are your opinions and reasons about it.

And suddenly, they left the room, without shaking my hand any longer.

Thankfully, this interview never took part and I did not need to give them more voice than what is already in every newspaper around the world, depending on their opinion, congratulating them or criticising the situation.

But if I would have had the opportunity of interviewing them, more or less, that would be the words and behaviour in front of a professional that just want to show to the world the raw reality of this Genocide.

I hope you enjoyed (it’s not the best word to describe it, I admit, but you know what I mean) the interview and I would like to thank WordPress to offered us this topic to allow me write something criticising the situation and giving you the reasons of why I am no longer interested in this tournament.

I love basketball, you all know that, but this kind of things just made me miss what is what we used to call basketball.

¿Cómo fue el domingo? Hoy venimos con el tema de WordPress del sábado. Como os comenté ayer, empecé a escribirlo, pero las tareas domesticas me tuvieron algo ocupado, y después, quedé con unos amigos, así que finalmente, lo dejé para escribirlo con calma el domingo por la tarde, y publicarlo hoy para tod@s vosotr@s, y así comenzamos la semana con energía 😎.

Así pues, estamos aquí para entrevistar tanto al Presidente como al Secretario General de la Federación Internacional de Baloncesto, FIBA. El actual Presidente es el Jeque Saud Ali Al Thani, y el actual Secretario General es Andreas Zagklis, que también supervisa la aplicación de la estrategia a largo plazo de la FIBA.

Pregunta: Buenos días, ¿cómo están? En primer lugar, muchas gracias por darme la oportunidad de esta entrevista a ambos.

Respuesta: Vayamos directamente al meollo de esta entrevista, por favor. Al final hemos accedido a darla gratis, así que cada segundo que pasamos aquí con preguntas basura nos cuesta mucho dinero.

P.: Muy bien, muy bien. Sólo quería ser amable con ustedes dos, pero si prefieren empezar con las preguntas más polémicas, adelante.

R.: Nuestro tiempo es preciado. Vamos, señor.

P.: Actualmente, el Eurobasket se está disputando en su fase de grupos, como en las últimas veces, en cuatro sedes diferentes, pero el tema más comentado es la participación de Israel en el torneo, cuando Rusia está ausente desde la primera vez que el país invadió Ucrania, hace ya tres años y medio. ¿Cuál es la razón que nos dan para ello?

R.: El pueblo de Israel está muy contento con la primera participación de su país en una competición de estas características, por lo que también estamos contentos de que Europa pueda ver el baloncesto de diferentes países de todo el continente.

P.: Estoy de acuerdo, pero mi pregunta no es exactamente esa. Precisamente, este año, con el conflicto todavía en marcha y Netanyahu anunciando que no parará hasta que todo el territorio palestino esté destruido y su gente se haya marchado o fallecido, ¿cree que tenemos que aceptar eso, especialmente, cuando estamos prohibiendo a otro país exactamente por lo mismo, o incluso peor, ya que Israel está implicado en un Genocidio total? La gente en Palestina, especialmente los niños, los ancianos y los ocupantes de hospitales, no son capaces de defenderse en absoluto.

R.: Israel ha conseguido una meritoria participación en el Eurobasket y no la detendremos.

P.: Bueno, en Rusia sigue habiendo jugadores de baloncesto que participan en sus ligas, pero la FIBA no les permite participar en la competición europea debido a su conflicto con Ucrania. ¿Por qué las reglas no son las mismas para Israel?

R.: No re-admitiremos a Rusia en en competiciones europeas ni mundiales, pero Israel tiene que estar aquí. No podemos impedirlo porque todos estuvimos de acuerdo en que Israel necesitaba un lugar en este mundo hace casi cien años y desautorizarlo de nuevo provocaría un conflicto aún mayor.

P: Realmente creo que el conflicto ya está aquí y que todos estamos dando cada vez más facilidades a Israel para que haga lo que quiera.

R.: ¿Tiene alguna pregunta más o podemos irnos? Tenemos un partido que empieza dentro de 2 horas en Polonia y tenemos que irnos ya o no llegaremos a tiempo si seguimos perdiendo el tiempo aquí con usted.

P.: ¿Se refiere al Polonia-Israel, por otro lado, un partido que nunca debería celebrarse?

R.: Adiós, chico. Espero que guarde esta entrevista y no la utilice para culparnos de nada.

P.: El debate ya está en la calle desde que ustedes permitieron a Israel participar en el Eurobasket 2025. Yo solo estoy proporcionando a mis lectores cuáles son sus opiniones y razones al respecto.

Y de repente, abandonaron la sala, sin darme siquiera la mano.

Por suerte, esta entrevista nunca tuvo lugar y no necesité darles más voz de la que ya tienen en todos los periódicos del mundo, según su opinión, felicitándoles o criticando la situación.

Pero si hubiera tenido la oportunidad de entrevistarles, más o menos, así habrían sido sus palabras y comportamiento frente a un profesional que sólo quiere mostrar al mundo la cruda realidad de este Genocidio.

Espero que hayáis disfrutado (no es la mejor palabra para describirlo, lo admito, pero ya me entendéis) de la entrevista y me gustaría agradecer a WordPress que nos ofreciera este tema para permitirme escribir algo criticando la situación y dando las razones de por qué ya no me interesa este torneo.

Me encanta el baloncesto, tod@s lo sabéis, pero este tipo de cosas me hacen echar de menos lo que antes llamábamos baloncesto.
